Access to Market Webinar Series – All you need to know about Government procurement in Canada

On Wednesday 7 December, 2022, EUCCAN hosted the kick-off discussion of its Access to Market Webinar Series, focusing on How to do business with the Government of Canada.

Public procurement expenditure as a percentage of GDP in Canada usually oscillates between 12-13% and ~15% (source: OECD) – and should only increase in the decade(s) to come as our societies undergo major social and economic transitions. The Government of Canada is one of the largest public buyers of goods and services in Canada, purchasing approximately $22 billion worth every year on behalf of federal departments and agencies.

To seize these market opportunities, it is paramount that businesses learn how to properly compete for federal contracts.

Organized in collaboration with Public Services and Procurement Canada – Procurement Assistance Canada, this discussion thus sought to provide EU businesses with a fundamental understanding of the basics of selling to the Government of Canada. The discussion notably touched upon the following components:

  • Finding out whether the Government of Canada buys your goods or service
  • Understanding the contracting process
  • Registering in supplier databases
  • Building networks and promoting your business
  • Searching for opportunities
  • Taking advantage of the procurement information on Buyandsell.gc.ca and Canadabuys
  • Understanding the security clearance process
  • Biding on opportunities
